This Psalm was written by David when he was in the desert. The colors and textures allude to a spiritual desert rather than a physical one and the font might be something one would scratch in the sand. These elements convey words like “yearn” and “thirst” even more powerfully. Although David was surrounded by the bleak wilderness, there was certainly no desert in his heart when he wrote the beautiful Psalm 63.
